Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for information.
A high-ranking official stated the attack made him speechless and required to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
